Climate

Armenia — The Republic of Armenia is a state in Transcaucasia, located in the north of the Anterior Asia, in the northeast of the Armenian Highlands. It has no access to the sea.
It borders Azerbaijan in the east, Iran in the south, Turkey in the west and Georgia in the north.

Armenia has a continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers. Precipitation is usually not abundant.

Armenia is a mountainous country, and only a small part of its territory is located below 1000 meters above sea level, while there are no plains. The climate becomes colder and wetter (as well as snowy in winter) with increasing altitude, while at lower altitudes rains are scarce and summers are very hot. The driest region where precipitation falls below 300 millimeters per year is the west, where the altitude above sea level is below 1000 meters.

In winter, cold air masses prevail, which, having reached the country from the north, tend to stagnate in the valleys, causing severe frosts. In the mountains, the winter temperature is from +2 to -14C, and on the plains the average temperature in January is 5C.

Spring is an unstable season, and the most frequent rains fall here, although they are not abundant, this country is generally arid, at least at lower altitudes.
In autumn and spring there are often severe frosts, while the soil temperature can drop to -28 C. The distribution of heat in Armenia depends on the height of the terrain. Even within the city limits, the temperature between two neighboring districts may differ by 2-3 C.

Summers are dry and sunny, but with daytime thunderstorms in the mountains. In the mountains, the average summer temperature ranges from +10 to +22C. On the plains, the average temperature in July is +25C.

About 3,500 species of plants are known on the territory of Armenia. The fauna of Armenia includes 76 species of mammals, more than 300 species of birds.
