Healthcare

Ireland has a dual healthcare system consisting of both private and public health facilities. The public health system in Ireland is regulated by one government agency, the Health Authority (HSE).

All maternity and child care services under the age of six are provided free of charge. Emergency care is provided at a price of 100 euros per visit to the emergency department, if the person did not first visit a general practitioner.

The cost of seeing a doctor depends on the category of medical care for which you are registered. Approximately 37% of the population have access to completely free public services through the system of medical records. This is also called category 1 care. All visits to the doctor, hospital treatment, tests and medications are free of charge.
It depends on your income whether you are eligible for a medical card.

In addition to the system of medical records, there is a business card of a general practitioner. The general practitioner's visit card is applied to those who are just above the threshold for a medical card, approximately 9% of the population. As the name suggests, this card offers free visits to a general practitioner. However, it does not include other benefits provided by the medical card. You will still have to pay for prescription medications and hospital expenses.

The rest of the population — all those who do not have the right to receive a medical card or a general practitioner's visit card — are still participants in the universal health care system. However, they will have to pay certain expenses for certain services. The average cost of a visit to a doctor is 50 euros. The average cost of a visit to the emergency department is 100 euros if you do not have a doctor's referral. In general, the costs are moderate, but they may increase over time. This is called category 2 care.

The Irish hospital system consists of public and private hospitals, with public hospitals treating both public and private patients. Upon admission to a public hospital, patients make a choice whether to be treated by their doctor on a public or private basis. There are 48 public hospitals and 21 private hospitals in Ireland. Private hospitals provide a wide range of diagnostic services, outpatient, inpatient and other related emergency inpatient services.

Climate

Ireland is a country in Northern Europe, occupying most of the island of Ireland. In the north it borders with Northern Ireland (part of Great Britain). The area is 70,273 km2.
The capital is the city of Dublin, which is home to about 1.4 million people.

The climate of Ireland is mild, humid and changeable with heavy precipitation and no temperature changes. The climate of Ireland is defined as a temperate oceanic climate. The island usually has warm summers and cool winters.
Since Ireland is located downwind of the great ocean, the winter here is much milder than in other places at the same latitude.

The prevailing wind blows from the southwest, crashing against the high mountains of the west coast. Valentia Island receives almost twice as much annual precipitation as Dublin in the east (1400 mm vs. 714 mm).
January and February are the coldest months of the year, and during these months the average daily air temperature drops from 4C to 7C. July and August are the warmest, with an average daytime temperature of 14C to 16C, while the average daytime maximum temperature in July and August ranges from 17C to 18C off the coast, and up to 19–20C inland. The sunniest months are May and June, with an average of five to seven hours of sunshine per day.

Ireland has fewer extreme temperatures compared to other areas at the same latitudes. There are regional differences: in winter it is cooler in inland areas, and in summer it is warmer than in coastal areas.
The warmest areas are along the southwest coast. Valentia Island has the highest average temperature - 10.9C.
The coldest areas are located inland. In Mullingar, the lowest average temperature is 9.3C.
The highest temperature ever recorded in Ireland was 33.3C. The lowest temperature was -19.1C.

Rain is the most common form of precipitation on the island and is extremely common throughout Ireland, although parts of the west coast receive twice as much precipitation as the east coast.
Most of the eastern half of the country receives from 750 to 1000 mm of precipitation per year. Precipitation in the west usually averages from 1000 to 1250 mm. In many mountainous areas, the amount of precipitation exceeds 3000 mm per year. The wettest months are almost everywhere - December and January. In general, April is the driest month, but in many southern regions, June is the driest month.
