Taxes

The main taxes in the Netherlands are: taxation of individuals, income tax, withholding tax, VAT, social contributions, real estate transfer tax, real estate tax, inheritance and gift tax.
Taxation of individuals
Tax residents of the country pay income tax on their total world income, but non–residents pay income tax on income received in the Netherlands. There are 3 categories:
1. Income from employment and commercial income are taxed at progressive tax rates: income up to 35,000 EUR – 9.42% (+ insurance premium 27.65%); income from 35,000 EUR to 68,000 EUR – 37.07%; income over 68,000 EUR – 49.50%.
2. Revenues from part of the company - 26.9%.
3. Income from savings and investments. In this case, the net assets of the taxpayer are assessed, and they are already taxed at a rate of 31%.
Income tax
Dutch companies pay tax on their global income, and this tax is 25.8% as of January 1, 2022. And companies with a profit of up to 245,000 EUR are taxed at a rate of 15%.
Income tax at the source of payment
Withholding tax is levied on dividends at a rate of 15%. But the tax may be withheld when making some other payments.
VAT
The standard VAT rate is 21%. A reduced rate of 9% may be applied to some goods and services.
Social contributions
Employees pay the national insurance premium, from the amount up to 35,000 EUR is taken at a rate of 27.65%. Employers pay a contribution for employee insurance, and the average amount is 6700 EUR per year for an employee with a permanent job and 9600 EUR for temporary employment. In addition, employees pay health insurance premiums in the amount of 1500 EUR.
Property transfer tax
The tax is levied on the market value of the object at a rate of 8%. And if the housing is purchased for their own residence, the rate is reduced to 2%.
Property tax
This is an annual tax on property owners, as a rule, charged from the market value of the object, and the rates already depend on the municipality.
Inheritance and gift tax
The tax is levied on the market value of the object of donation or inheritance.
The Netherlands has concluded more than 100 agreements on the avoidance of double taxation.

Education

In the Netherlands, the education system is divided into 3 stages: primary, secondary and higher.
Primary education
Children from 4 to 12 years old go to primary school, and education lasts 8 years.
Primary education is divided into 2 categories: regular and special. Special primary education is organized for mentally retarded or disabled children (ages 3 to 12).
School education in the Netherlands is funded from taxpayers' money. The average cost of education in primary school is 3,000 euros per year, and in a special school for problem children is 6,000 euros per year.
As elsewhere, schools can ask parents to make a voluntary contribution to the needs of the institution, equipment, picnics, school trips. The amount varies from 50 USD to 500 USD.
When a child reaches the age of three, many municipalities send a letter to parents informing them that they must enroll the child in school. Due to the popularity of some schools, "waiting lists" often arise.
The school day lasts from 3 to 5 hours. Lessons start at 8.30, and the children also have a short break so that they can eat the food they brought with them from home.
Secondary education
Secondary education is divided into 4 types: practical education, pre-professional and technical education, senior general secondary education and preparatory scientific education.
Practical education
It is intended for children who cannot study theory. This is the lowest level of secondary education. Pre-professional and technical education
Here children study for 4 years from 12 to 16 years, and depending on the chosen educational direction, children receive not only practical, but also theoretical training.
Senior general secondary education
It already lasts 5 years from 12 to 17 years. After completing it and receiving a diploma, a child can enter a technical school or an institute, but not a university.
Preparatory scientific education
Lasts 6 years from 12 to 18 years. The diploma gives the right to enter the university.
Secondary vocational education
You can get it starting from the age of 16. Lasts from a year to 4 years.
Higher education
Higher professional education.
They study for a bachelor's degree for 4 years. If desired, you can go to the master's program.
University education.
They study for a bachelor's degree for 3 years, if desired, they can also go for a master's degree.
The quality of education in the country is at a high level, diplomas are valued all over the world.

Healthcare

The Netherlands has a fairly high level of health care system. The Dutch healthcare system is run by the government, and there are also private insurance companies. To access the services, residents are required to take out medical insurance.
The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports is responsible for healthcare in the Netherlands.
All residents and people who visit the Netherlands can use medical care if they have health insurance.
Every resident is required to have a compulsory state health insurance policy, but there are a few exceptions:
- Persons under the age of 18
- Citizens of the EU, EEA, Switzerland who have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
- Citizens of non-EU, EEA countries who have a private health insurance policy
- Persons who voluntarily refuse medical insurance for personal reasons.
Persons whose income is below average can apply for health care benefits.
Healthcare costs in the Netherlands are quite high. The Netherlands is one of the 10 EU/EFTA countries that spend more than €4,000 per capita on healthcare.
The public health system is funded by contributions that are paid monthly by insurance companies, the approximate amount of contributions starts from € 100 per month.
Each insured person is obliged to pay a certain amount of medical expenses annually in order to get the right to use a health insurance policy, the approximate amount is € 385 per year.
There are two main forms of compulsory health insurance in the Netherlands:
- Zorgverzekeringswet (Zvw) is basic medical care
- Wet langdurige zorg (Wlz) - long-term medical care.
The basic insurance program includes reimbursement of expenses for the most common medical services: treatment by general practitioners and specialist doctors, medical care for pregnancy and reimbursement of the cost of medicines.
A large number of medical services are available to residents of the state under the state health insurance program, but there are exceptions:
- Dentistry
- Physical Therapy
- Treatment by some narrowly focused specialists.

Climate

The Netherlands is a country located in Northwestern Europe, with an area of 41,543 km2. The state has borders with 2 countries: with Germany in the east and with Belgium in the south, and in the north and west it is washed by the North Sea.
Almost half of the country's territories are located in flat terrain. The highest point of the country is the Vaalserberg hill, its height is 321 m.
The country is located in a temperate maritime climate zone, there is practically no difference between the parts of the state due to its small size and flat terrain. There is also high humidity in the Netherlands.
We can single out only one significant feature – the closer to the sea, the milder the climate, while in provinces remote from it, the differences are stronger. Winters are quite warm here. January is the coldest month in the Netherlands. Usually the weather is humid, there are frequent fogs, rains and less often snowfalls. There are few sunny days in January, the average temperature ranges from +1C to +3C during the day and from 0C to -2C at night. The water temperature in the sea is +7C. The hottest month is July, the average temperature varies from +16C to +18C during the day and from +12C to +14C at night. Up to 800 mm of precipitation falls in about a year. Weather features in the Netherlands are characterized by westerly winds blowing from the North Sea. In summer they bring coolness, and in winter they soften the cold climate. In autumn, there are often prolonged and heavy rains in the country. But in the spring it's good to have a rest in the Netherlands. Usually it is at this time of the year that stable warm and sunny weather begins. The temperature does not exceed 15 degrees. The flower season in the Netherlands starts from the end of April and ends around the middle of May.
The beach season in the Netherlands starts in July and lasts until the end of August.
Also, from May to September comes the perfect time for surfing.
